Equagen has a position opening for a Senior/Lead Electrical Substation Engineer to support our growing Energy Business Line. For this role, Equagen offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely, hybrid or to be located at its headquarters in Raleigh, NC.
The responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Responsible for leading the electrical engineering design across markets sectors including transmission (substations, OH/UG transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), power distribution (OH/UG power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), and renewables (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind).
- Take technical ownership of all aspects of design for high voltage (4kV – 230kV) and EHV (above 230kV) substations:
- Substation and switching station physical design, including air-insulated substations (AIS), gas-insulated substations (GIS), Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS).
- Substation general arrangement drawings, elevations, and sections
- Plan drawings such as grounding plans, raceway plans, cable tray plans etc.
- Grounding plans, cable trough/conduit plans
- Specification for major primary equipment
- One-line and three-line diagrams
- Protective relay and metering diagrams
- AC/DC schematics
- Panel Layouts, equipment layouts and sectional views
- Connection Diagrams
- Bill of Materials
- Cable Schedules
- DC power distribution design
- Electrical Lists - Cable and Conduit Schedules, Load List, Equipment List
- Calculations – Grounding analysis and design, Cable sizing, conduit sizing, transformer sizing, battery sizing, lightning protection, bus bracing
- Power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, arc flash analysis)
- Leading projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning
- Reviewing engineering work performed by peers or consultants.
- Occasional travel to client or project sites
- Keenly focused on the production of high-quality work and supports continuous improvement efforts.
- Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects.
- Responsible for assisting with the identification of key client interests and drivers and may determine the key clients.
- A Licensed Professional Engineer is required.
- Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in Electrical engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- At least 7 years of experience performing substation electrical design and engineering for high voltage substations in US across markets sectors including transmission (substations, OH/UG transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), power distribution (OH/UG power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), and renewables (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind).
- Knowledge of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluent in English language.
Relocation assistance will be provided if the candidate is willing to relocate to Raleigh, NC and report to the main office.
